Digital Printing

Digital printing is the process of printing digital-based images directly onto a variety of media substrates such as paper. There is no need for a printing plate, as those used for offset printing. Digital files such as PDFs or desktop publishing files can be sent directly to the digital printing press to print on paper, photo paper, fabric, synthetics, cardstock and other substrates. Digital production print technology is evolving quickly, and digital printing output quality is improving continuously. These advancements are delivering print quality that mimics offset. Digital printing enables additional advantages, including personalized, variable data printing (VDP), cost-effective short runs and fast turnaround times.

Wide Format Printing - is essentially digital printing on a much larger scale. This printing method can be applied to produce banners, wallpaper, stickers, wraps and signage amongst other things.

  • Relatively quick turnaround
  • Hard proofs easy to produce
  • High quality
  • Cost effective for short print runs

Lithographic Printing

Lithographic and offset printing, or litho printing for short, is where the image of the content you want to produce is printed or exposed onto a plate which is then covered in ink and used for printing. This process can be used to print on paper, card and various other materials. Lithography is widely used around the world for printing books, catalogues and posters because of the high quality results and the relatively fast turnaround. Whilst it takes longer to setup than a digital printer, it’s quicker to do high quantities of high quality repeat items. That’s why it’s great for the aforementioned items in large quantities.

  • Cost effective for large print runs
  • Unrivalled quality
  • Accurate colour reproduction
  • Lead times can vary on new orders

Bigwoods on Broad St 1968

Based in Jersey, we are the oldest and one of the biggest print companies in the Channel Islands, offering a vast range of products and services from the print and print-related trades.

Starting life as 'J.T. Bigwood' (printers and publishers) in the early 1900's, we have always moved with the times, maintaining a strong awareness of the local market and the needs of the businesses around us. Having been in business for over one-hundred years, we have accumulated more than just a little experience when it comes to achieving the results that people seek when buying print. This comes from a strong understanding of our market combined with a wealth of knowledge in all aspects of our trade.

As members of the World Land Trust Bigwoods Premier Printers has proven we take our environmental obligations very seriously. Unfortunately, we work in an industry that still uses some substances and solvents and produces a considerable amount of waste each year, but our desire to have as little impact as possible on our environments - immediate, island wide and globally - means that we ensure that all of our working practices are ecologically sound and that our waste is disposed of in the most responsible manner possible.

We recycle whenever we can and we encourage the use of recycled products. We strive to be as conservative as possible in our use of essential resources such as power, water and fuel and our team are well educated in the safe handling and disposal of hazardous materials. We also practice the informed sourcing and purchasing of raw materials.

Why do we care so much? Because most of us have children too, and we'd like to think that our responsible approach to business will ensure that they will inherit an environment that we took great care to protect for them.
